Since their formation, Leveret have been one of the most enviably talented groups of folk musicians on the circuit, but with the sheer creativity shown on Inventions they have moved up another gear.
Jon Boden compiles The Ultimate Guide To English Folk, a lavish two-disc primer designed to appeal to experienced folkies and newbies alike. It is not the first such collection, but it is probably the most wide-ranging, lovingly compiled and inventively sequenced. One of the most important messages to take from this compilation is that while folk music in England is something of an extended family, it is by no means a closed shop. It is the openness to interpretation of these songs that makes the English tradition one of the richest in the world.
Three of England’s finest folk musicians: Andy Cutting, Sam Sweeney and Rob Harbron are on the road again this month as Leveret for the launch of their latest album ‘In the Round’. Watch them performing The Good Old Way from their latest album.
