    Default Hi

This is the second time I've attempted this; I lost the first one somehow and I ain't about to re-type the whole thing. Suffice it to say music has been around me pretty much all my life.

Due to my wife's disability, and my love of creature comforts, festivals and upstairs rooms in pubs are not our scene but we regularly attend professional gigs at the David Hall in South Petherton, The Wiltshire Music Centre in Bradford on Avon and the Anvil (and Forge) in Basingstoke as well as other venues in the Somerset/Wiltshire/Dorset area and the regular monthly music night at Queen Camel.

Recently we've seen Belshazzar's Feast, Coope, Boyes & Simpson and Berekah and will be seeing Antonio Forcione (ok, he's more jazz/world than folk but it's acoustic and superb), Lau and Eliza Carthy (as well as a number of classical gigs) in the new year (not to mention the fabulous Ukulele Orchestra of Great Britain).

I've been having a discussion with friends about the most inapt (unapt?) songs and singers which was prompted by hearing a couple of middle aged men singing the Undertones 'Teenage Kicks' at a live music night at Queen Camel a couple of months ago. Generally we agree that it is rather sad of these people to try to relive the 'glories' of their past youth but there has to be a place for the UOoGB's lullaby rendering of Anarchy in the UK.

Hi SRD, good to welcome another new face. Impressive range of music you're getting out and about to see. To extend your last line, there has to be a place for any and all of UOoGB's particular brand of musical lunacy. They never fail to leave the biggest smile on your face

We don't have a telly so there is less of a temptation to just curl up at home. I suppose we average a couple of gigs of one kind or another a week throughout the year. One of the few advantages of my wife's disability is cheap access to many venues.
