    Default My music.

Hey guys i wrote this song this afternoon and recorded it on my ipod. I was just hoping for some general feedback, i know the song is not perfect and i will do lots of re-recordings before dreaming of anything proffessional. I was just hoping for some general feedback to make sure im going in the right direction.

    Thanks a lot,

    Hi Rambler

Welcome to the forum. This is a great place to chat and introduce us to your music. You never know It may even get played on the stream. Unfortunatly I can't access my-space from work so I'll have a listen when I get home. All the best and chat to you later.

Hi Rambler, and welcome to the best radio station in the folk world.

Wow! you like to hit the ground running, don't you? First post with a new song.

You're very bold, sticking your head round the door and asking strangers for an appraisal of your work.

I may not be the best person to judge on two counts. Firstly, I've never, in my 40+ years of playing and singing, written a song. . Secondly, my musical taste leans more toward the Tradition than the Indie.
However, since you've asked some feedback, I shall comment with my experience as a long time listener to music.

Firstly, Congratulations, you've written a song BUT I'm going to be brutally honest with you.

I don't think it is good, as it lacks structure, both in its lyrics and musically.
Our listening habits are accustomed to hearing songs where both the words and the music form recognisable patterns, and these patterns take many forms. Your new song has a random element about it that leaves me wondering where I am in the story, and I have no idea where the music is going to go next. That's not to say you can't do it that way, but you have to have something really special to be able to get away with it, particularly with respect to the music.

May I suggest that you Google "song writing", or words to that effect, and have a look at a few of the websites and blogs about the best ways to go about it?
Also, go back to a couple of your favourite songs, and listen to them with a critical ear.
What makes them attractive to you?
How is the music structured mathematically? Try breaking it down into packets or phrases, and see how it works.

Rambler, I hope you won't take my comments as a personal affront, because the last thing I would want to do would be to discourage anybody from creative work. Quite the opposite - I would really like you to get somewhere with your song-writing. Good music makes the world a fit place in which to live.
I'm looking forward to hearing your follow-up

    All the very best,

    Bob
This will go on, though dynasties pass.....
......but we will walk this world with music.

Thanks a lot for the welcomes, most appreciated.

I was just after any feedback at all really, traditionally i am an indie kind of guy i play in an indie band and when everyone is together we do manage to make songs with better structure!

I did think i would hear something like that so its no problem. It does encourage me to better my work.

    Thank you for the feedback!

    Hi Rambler

I would applaud anyone that has the balls to play or sing in front of anybody. As for having the ability to even attempt to write a song you must be doing somthing right, keep it up, I could'nt do it, I would'nt know where to start. I somtimes struggle to write on here

Hi, rambler .... pleased to meet you !.

I feel you should develope your songwriting,
with your Band in mind, rather than
as a solo artist .... that can come later!.

    See ya!
