    Default Absent friends

You may have deduced from the flurry of posts that I'm not even trying to work today.

Reason not so good, been laid low for a few days by nasty chest infection and finally given in to it today.

Anyway, it's giving me time to browse around a few other aspects of the station and I lighted on the name, Fudged, that's currently #10 on the posts lists. Thing is, he's never posted during the time that I've been active on this forum and I guess it won't be long before he's overtaken in the list and maybe we'll never hear or see the name again

I found that quite said and it prompted me to look back at some of the posts that he made earlier in the year. It would seem he dropped off the forum about a month before I started but prior to that had been quite an active chatter. That got me to thinking about what may have changed and hoping that it wasn't anything nasty. So, as Christmas approaches, I guess this is like one of those cards that you send out to an old friend, when you're almost certain they're long gone from the only address you have but don't want to face up to the fact that you've lost contact

Ah well. Sorry to be a bit maudlin, put it down to the bug.

    Excellent post John.

I often wonder where fudged is too. He was very friendly to me when I started on here in April.

    John, my apologies

I meant to wish you better health in my last post, but my memory span didn't let me get right round the goldfish bowl, so I'm doing it now.

Thanks, mate. Not hit the whisky bottle yet today but about to try a bacon buttie. Won't have much taste, but I can remember what they used to taste like

    Hey, John!

Sorry to hear about the cold/chest infection. Hope your recovery is swift.

One of the advantages of working in a public school is that it's about like working in a Biological Warfare Testing Center and eventually you develop an immunity to just about everything.

The disadvantage is you have to endure years of being sneezed on by eight-year-olds.

    Get well, man.

Sorry, John, I missed this when you first posted. Thanks for the good wishes, still sufferin but clear signs of improvement, I will be ok for Christmas.

Doesn't matter if they're 8 or 18; my students still do a magnificent job of turning the University into a germ lab. Question is, why after almost 30 years has my hard earned immunity let me down this time.

    Cheers

    To all the well wishers....

While on my bed of pain, I heard knockin' and I arose and answered, from above, "Who hast travelled so far to see me during the inclement weather?"

And they have answered, "Tis me, old friend, come to pay my annual tribute and partake of the Festive baked goods wot you have in you pantry, as per."

LO, I say unto them, "Seasonal Greetings and Get lost, O Travellers for I are mostly having the flu this week and could not be mithered to bake a single mince pie. Furthermore, I love you all and do not wish to share said bug, so get ye hence."

And they have naffed off like the good friends they are, only to ring at intervals of half an hour, just when I am dropping off nicely, to say "How do you feel now?"

So, if you see a bright star in the east, it will not be the Second Coming, just me in my slightly used Space Shuttle, in a vain attempt to get some kip...think I am still feverish...it all seems so real...

    I HAVE missed you all.

That cracked me up Jools, great to hear from you. I hope you get the rest you need. You take care and get well soon
