Decided to go seriously green as a Christmas present to ourselves. Our house has 20 recessed can floodlights and we're replacing the remaining 19 of them (we already did one) with LED floods. While the LED floods are pretty expensive ($95.00 each) they last roughly 30 years with 8 hours usage a day. Each puts out slightly more light in foot/lumens than the 75 watt floods they are replacing and each only pulls 3 watts.

That's a big investment John, but one that will show a return very quickly. I'm waiting a little longer for the price of LEDs to come down.
Small fluorescent lamps are now 1/10 the price they were a couple of years ago.
What sort of price do you have to pay for 1 kWatt/hour of electricity? Mine is on a split rate.I pay 20.395 pence per kWh for the first 126 kWh, and 8.819 pence for any subsequent kWhs.
This will go on, though dynasties pass.....
......but we will walk this world with music.

I pay 13.46 US cents per kWatt/hour, but I'm with an electrical cooperative which has cheaper rates than the for-profit utility companies. They're more on the 20 cents per kWatt/hour.

I thought about holding out for LED paint - you paint it on, apply current and you get lights! - but they haven't gotten that out of the lab yet.:frown2:

The LED's, even the new ones, are a little harsh yet. The light's a bit actinic - on the blue side - but they're getting better at that and the price is falling. We paid $120 for the one flood we bought a year ago as opposed to $95 for the ones we just bought.

There are a lot more suppliers and manufacturers to choose from too. When we started looking there were only 2 in this country. There's 6 now.
