Does Anybody Know? ...the origin of the phrase "Cheers me dears"?
My girlfriend said it the other day, and I've noticed a couple of the women in the office saying too - but nobody knows where it comes from. Any ideas folks?
Let's think the unthinkable, let's do the undoable, let's prepare to grapple with the ineffable itself, and see if we may not eff it after all. ~ Douglas Adams
OOOOHHHH, Good one Jan.round here I hear "Cheers Me Duck" a lot as well as "me dears".

Ooh, that is interesting - 'Me duck' being a greeting common in Lincolnshire where Auntie Jools family comes from, also current in Leicestershire, I think. And imported into Warwickshire with the older relatives, finding Lincoln not enough to contain them....

'Music with the bark still on it!' Tom Paxton about Woody Guthrie.
Mostly what you hear around here is, 'Cheers, y'all.' :)

Ah, but I was so much older then. I'm younger than that now.' - Bob Dylan
Im not sure where it comes from but I do say it a alot so maybe I should devote some time to wondering over it lol. I always assumed it was becuase it rhymed![]()
I think it has as much to do with rhymes as anything else.
Here in Toytown we say 'Cheers, Big Ears'.
anybody out there know why we're here (apart from waiting for gillian welch to tour with lucky dave rawlings, obviously)
I can say with great conviction, that I have absolutely No Idea
It could be to serve as a warning to other worlds, it could be that we are part of some massive intergallactic experiment, it could just be a terrible accident.
But whatever the reason I do believe that whilst we're here we should be enjoying it, living to our full potential and experiencing as much new stuff as we can.
Don't get me wrong. I don't want to bungie jump. I have no desire to freefall and I certainly don't envy people who climb everest " just because it's there". I just want to experience the things in life that appeal to me.
Life is like a grabbing machine at the funfair. you go for what you want, it might slip away but you can always put another pound in and try again. Some people strike lucky first time, others spend a fortune trying to get what they want and some never win. but it's fun trying. (and someone always profits.)
If you mean, why are we on this forum? Thats easy! It's full of great music and great people.
right my glass is empty.......
