Bio:

“I knew then - that was the only thing I would do”, says Steven Finn on hearing Bob Dylan sing Mr. Tambourine Man.

Since moving to London from his hometown of Manchester, Steven has had a number of successful gigs in the Bush Hall, Union Chapel, Shepherd’s Bush Empire, Forum (the Old Town & Country Club) – all very suitable to his intense style which draws audiences in. He also wrote the music to the FourDocs winning short film ‘Lark’.

Spring 2008 saw the launch of his debut solo album, ‘Houdini’s Blues’ at the Union Chapel. The process was an intensely intimate one for Steven as, in order to get as honest a recording as possible, he recorded it live and mixed and mastered it all from home over a two-week period. The results speak for themselves – “Distinctive thought provoking lyrics, haunting far reaching vocals, beautiful crisp guitar playing and swinging blues harmonica. Steven Finn is a rare find indeed” (Union Chapel review).

Steven originally started out playing in the various folk clubs of the North of England, singing the songs he couldn’t stop writing. From listening to Sonny Boy Williamson and Sonny Terry he developed his folk-blues harp style.

In 1999 he recorded the album ‘Before the flood’ with Andrew Dinan and John Jo Kelly (Small World records) a mix of traditional Irish tunes and self-penned songs, which they then toured extensively, from Belfast to Hong Kong.

As a solo performer Steven has played gigs with Martin Carthy, Rory McLeod, Elvis Costello, Issac Guillory, Kathryn Tickell, Lunasa, Capercaille and the Beautiful South (with whom he toured as support in 1998) amongst others. More recently he played main guitar for Emiliana Torrini (Rough Trade) for two years on a tour that took them across Europe, America, Australia and into the Middle East.
