Lovely Yorkshire Lass, fiddle, cello player and mighty fine singer, Rachael McShane, is not one to hang around. I first saw her play in Crosscurrent alongside Damien O'Kane. It was only after seeing her perform at Milverton Folk Club with Crosscurrent that I then saw her on the box performing in Bellowhead. Rachael has not been one to take the limelight but that is now set to change.

Rachael has always been one to explore new avenues and she is passionate about traditional folk music and gifted in being able to bring a new approach to the tradition. I don't think the Trad Folk scene would be anywhere near as vibrant as it is now if it wasn't for such gifted and daring musicians as Rachael who bring new interpretations that also attract new fans by the droves.

Rachael recently sent me a demo track for "The Drowned Sailor" which has been playing on the station under the name of: "The Rachael McShane Trio". She has joined forces with jazz men: Adam Kent (piano) and Ian "Dodge" Paterson (Double Bass) in her latest venture which I'm please to see she is leading on.

Jazz and Folk seem to be crossing paths more frequently these days and the results can be very rewarding. I love what I've heard so far and I hope to be able to bring you more soon. Meanwhile, if you haven't heard Rachael, go and pay her a visit at Myspace. www.myspace.com/rachaelmcshane
