This is the debut album from English dance band Boldwood, great to dance to and fantastic listening. Many of the tunes on the album have never been recorded before, uncovered by Becky Price in unpublished manuscripts in the Library at Cecil Sharp House, and brought to life by Boldwood - a band newly formed for this purpose.
The exciting new 5 piece's repertoire consists entirely of traditional English and Welsh dance tunes, mainly from the 18th century - a golden age for English music, when "folk" and "classical" worlds cohabited easily, arguably for the last time. Boldwood's unusual line-up of 3 fiddles, accordion and bouzouki was born, creating the perfect combination for this rich folk/classical hybrid music and providing a full, lyrical string sound, subtle arrangements, lush harmonies and driving rhythms to move the feet as well as the heart.
Samples from Proper Music:
