About Folk Radio
What is Folk Radio?
Folk Radio is an online Music Magazine covering an eclectic mix of non-mainstream independent music with a penchant for exploring contemporary underground worlds for new and old sounds. The music featured includes, but is not restricted to: Folk (Trad, Contemporary as well as the weird & experimental), Acoustic, Lo-fi, Americana, World, Indie, Experimental and Alternative music. It was founded in 2004 as a radio station but has since developed into a large online magazine which offers playlists and weekly shows. Folk Radio has been recommended by The Guardian, The Independent and The Big Issue, Tom Robinson (BBC 6 Music) and Fiona Talkington (BBC Radio 3’s Late Junction).
Folk Radio has over 39,000 followers on Twitter & Facebook and each month attracts over 125,000 unique visitors and 500,000 page views (6 million page views per year). The site includes album reviews, news, interviews, guest articles and features. We also compliment our words with weekly Shows and Spotify Playlists which seek to cover a broad mix of music from the past and present as well as introducing new artists and forthcoming releases.
We also occasionally dip into art and culture, including poetry and film.
Who is Folk Radio?
Folk Radio is run full time by Alex Gallacher (Founder & Editor-in-chief) along with a great team of freelance writers from around the globe including the UK, Canada, US and Australia.
What’s our agenda?
Folk Radio has no written agenda other than to seek out great music and share it with our readership/listeners. We are beholden to no one and are 100% independent. No one, including press agencies, record labels or advertisers set our agenda.
Expect the unexpected, go and explore, have a read of our many articles and listen to some of our shows and playlists and we’ll hopefully recharge some batteries along the way.
