Portland-based songwriter John Craigie has announced a UK tour this October; following the release of new record No Rain, No Rose earlier in the year (reviewed here). The extensive tour includes shows in Nottingham, Manchester, Sheffield and London’s Green Note on October 19th (see full dates below).
Renowned for his eloquent Americana style, engaging live shows, and off-the-cuff clever observations, John Craigie carries on the legacy of classic singer-songwriters, while blazing a trail of his own.
If John Prine and Mitch Hedberg had a child, the resulting product would resemble something very close to singer-songwriter John Craigie. Musically comparable to John Prine, with the humour and wit of Mitch Hedberg, the humble, gracious, and hilarious Craigie is one of the best storytellers of our time. It’s no wonder that Chuck Norris sends him fan mail, and Todd Snider brings him gifts on stage.
Almost an ode to Portland, Craigie’s fifth studio album, No Rain, No Rose boasts two collaborations with Gregory Alan Isakov, “Highway Blood” and “I Am California”; the latter of which quickly cracked 200K Spotify streams and counting.
The album is inspired by the folk torchbearers of the sixties and seventies, attempting to follow in the footsteps of the era. Craigie strives for the quality of the informal recording style of the era that more closely mirrors his heart as a performer.
The vagabond troubadour has charmed audiences in all 50 US states and throughout Europe, with a DIY spirit seldom seen these days. While touring solo and with the likes of Jack Johnson, Todd Snider, Shook Twins, Nicki Bluhm, and ALO, Craigie has taken the stage at festivals; sold out venues, intimate house concerts, centre camp at Burning Man and even Gregory Alan Isakov’s farm. Craigie’s true home is on the road, and just like that he’s on to the next town, playing and singing and telling stories to everyone who wants to listen.
