Eblis Álvarez is one of the key figures of the experimental music scene in Bogota, Colombia and the creator of the Meridian Brothers which began life back in 1998 when recordings were distributed by cassette on the underground music market in Bogota. They recently announced the release of their fourth album on Soundway (out September 8th, 2017). The release of ¿Dónde Estás María? which will coincide with the start of a month-long European tour, which includes a show at London’s Rich Mix on 19 September. In their most accessible venture yet, the band blends psych-folk with traditional Latin rock, tropicalia, and lush string and choral arrangements.
The Meridian Brothers’ sound is a huge palette of influences and inspirations drawing from traditional Latin rock (including Colombian, Argentinian and Mexican) as well as Brazilian tropicalia, for this new album Álvarez incorporates string instruments – in particular, the cello, both bowed and plucked – a timbre rarely used in his previous works.
