There’s no denying that Greg Russell and Ciaran Algar have been kept busy over the last few years. Most recently Greg has performed in Shake the Chains and The Transports, two touring productions which have had praiseworthy reviews from the music press. Ciaran released his solo debut album The Final Waltz at the beginning of last year which saw him touring with his band throughout 2016. While this has all been great, I’m sure that fans will be pleased to hear that they will reunite as a duo again next month as they head out on the road (see tour dates below).
Bearing in mind that Greg Russell & Ciaran Algar won the BBC Young Folk Awards in 2013 they’ve certainly come along in leaps and bounds. They went on to win the BBC Radio 2 Horizon Award in 2014 and were nominated for Best Duo in 2015. Last year they released The Silent Majority which was a Featured Album of the Month on Folk Radio UK. In her album review Helen concluded:
The Silent Majority is both a milestone and a pointer to the future; from start to finish it’s packed with great songs played with panache, confidence and an irresistible enthusiasm for the music. It’s an album which firmly establishes the reputations of Greg Russell and Ciaran Algar as one of the best duos on the British folk circuit today and, if there’s any justice in this world, will sell by the wagonload to existing fans and newcomers alike.
