California-based songwriter Corinne West kicks off her 2017 UK Tour in April 2017 (details below), one that she’s been looking forward to as she reveals “There is always a certain magic in the UK tours. It will be stellar to be with you once again.”
In advance of her tour, Corinne will release a single; a reworking of the Battlefield Band song The Yew Tree, written by Brian McNeill. Readers of Folk Radio UK will no doubt have seen that the Battlefield Band have released The Producer’s Choice which covers their 40 years of musical development. It’s one of our Featured Albums of the Month, and you can read our review here. Corinne’s single will be released on April 14th in the UK.
While Corinne West is a well-established figure on the acoustic roots/folk scene with five critically-acclaimed albums to her name she’s also a visual artist (She has a Degree in Art from the New College in San Francisco). In 2011, at the end of a tour covering 11 countries, Corinne took a sabbatical from performing full-time. She was granted an Austrian Artist in Residency Visa to create both visual art and music in the country. During the residency, she was commissioned to create a large-scale installation, which involved transforming an abandoned castle into a magical dreamscape. “Fairy Night at the Villa,” a private event which Corinne describes as a “multi-dimensional art experience,” featured the entire estate. On the grounds outside the castle, she installed multi-coloured lighting design, fire dancers, mimes and roaming minstrels. Costumed actors mingled with guests, all in line with the mythic Fairy Tale Theme. The installation involved a multitude of mediums and was completed in just one month. Corinne emerged from her residency in Austria and returned to the United States with renewed inspiration and focus.
