Identical twins Laura and Charlotte Carrivick have been making their inimitable brand of folk music for a decade, their bluegrass-derived instrumental precision and easy way with a charming story song delighting audiences across the UK and as far-flung as Canada and Mainland Europe.
Born in Yorkshire and raised variously in Devon and Queensland, Australia, the twins’ musical influences shine through on 10 Years Live in the covers recorded for the first time covering rock’n’roll, country, bluegrass and Appalachian old-time that became their passion.
With favourite originals and covers selected by an online vote, the track listing takes in highlights from their five previous albums as well as newly-recorded numbers Crate 223 (a Charlotte instrumental – see video below) and beloved covers of songs by artists such as Joni Mitchell and James Taylor. Their banjo-and-fiddle duet of Suspicious Minds first came about after an invitation to appear in a Coen Brothers tribute (it appears in Intolerable Cruelty).
Recorded live this year at The Convent, Stroud in front of an audience of friends and fans by Josh Clark (Kate Rusby’s Life In A Paper Boat, Nizlopi), 10 Years Live sees Laura and Charlotte hop ably from one instrument to the next with the kind of tasteful, restrained virtuosity typical of their influences: Charlotte plays the guitar, mandolin, clawhammer banjo and tenor guitar, Laura fiddle, dobro and guitar.
