We have a lovely video premiere for you today with Say It’s True taken from the forthcoming self-titled 7-Song EP from Siobhan Wilson, due for release in June. Siobhan is the latest signing to Reveal Records and has been making a name for herself on the Scottish scene for a couple of years now, gigging under the name Ella The Bird. Having reverted to her own name Siobhan has just been out supporting Idlewild and is also lined up to support Lau on their forthcoming tour (dates below). Lau’s Aidan O’Rourke is one of several notable guests on the forthcoming record and unusually can be heard amongst the backing chorus here. Siobhan herself is a multi-instrumentalist playing guitar, mandolin, ukulele and cello on the song. This bright smiling and occasionally dizzying video is directed by Michael MacLennan.
Having studied classical music and composition in Edinburgh, Siobhan then moved to Paris to continue her studies. There she became immersed in both the jazz and chanson Française, absorbing the work of Ella Fitzgerald, Nina Simone and Jacques Brel into a growing range of influences.
Say It’s True gives a hint of how her songwriting has developed, while songs like the previously available All Dressed Up (downloaded 50,000 times) and Dear God (featured on Lauren Laverne’s show on 6 Music), have already caught the ears of many. We’ll be bringing you more on the seven-track album closer to release. In the meantime make an effort to catch her on tour.
