There are many songs sung by Dick Gaughan that move me but amongst them are a handful that take it all to another level for me personally. One of them is a song by Phil and June Colclough inspired by a trip they took to the Dingle Peninsula in Ireland. They were both very active on the British folk scene founding the first folk music club in Stoke-on-Trent in 1960, members of the Critics Group led by Ewan MacColl and Peggy Seeger and producers of a folk music radio program for BBC Radio Stoke in the 70’s.
Song for Ireland has got to be their most well known. It’s our Song of the Day and the video or Dick Gaughan performing is taken from an ’80’s BBC documentary:
Dick Gaughan is touring with Jim Page, both feature in our radio playlist. Ticket links here.
