The English Folk Dance and Song Society (EFDSS) is delighted to announce the opening of a brand new photographic exhibition curated by Derbyshire born photographer and folk musician, Elly Lucas.
Folktography: A decon/reconstruction will see Elly present a series of self-portraits playing with the stereotypes associated with the visual side to English folk music. Sourced from a social media campaign, the ephemera depicted will explore both the predictable – from Crocs and corduroy – right the way through to the wildly unexpected, with Elly’s tongue firmly planted in cheek.
The exhibition will open Thursday 16 January from 6pm. Thereafter it runs daily 9:30am – 5:30pm and is free (no booking required) until April 2014.
To celebrate the opening of the exhibition Elly will be teaming up with David Gibb to perform their first gig of 2014. David and Elly, whose career was kickstarted with a BBC Young Folk Award nomination in 2011, combine original and traditional folk influences to create something that boasts an innovative and simply beautiful sound.
