On the latest Simple Folk Radio show and over the next few weeks Dillon will be airing some of his all time favourite shows which you can now listen to on Folk Radio UK at your own leisure using the Mixcloud widget below. The first features Things in Herds. Over to Dillon:
I decided to look back this week and revisit one of my favourite sessions, one that stands out like a sore thumb, Things In Herds.
A good few years ago I found myself writing about their music, trying to describe it and what it means to me, I settled with “imagine if Nick Drake had lived to become a fan of Belle & Sebastian. They have penned some of the most beautiful, haunting songs I have ever known, songs with the power to stop me in my tracks, to leave me feeling winded, breathless, in ore”
Despite being members of The Fence Collective (a la King Creosote/James Yorkston/Pictish Trail), despite releasing album after album of “cut-glass precision..lip quivering beauty.. heartrendingly exquisite intimacy”- The Times, not nearly enough people have heard of them.
Admittedly they have been in hiatus for a quite while, with no tours, no releases, not even a working website, but all that is about to change. They’re back in the studio working on a new album, and have accepted an offer to play a live show in Brighton supporting Fence Records latest signing Monoganon (their first live show in possibly years).
So yes, it is with great pleasure that I dust off this old session from the archive, and share with you the joy that is Things In Herds.
