Cass McCombs and Michael Hurley are to release a joint single on Secret Seven Records. Hurley, a legendary folk singer who has been making music for over fifty years is a remarkably inventive artist writing lyrics that were pretty much unlike anything else at the time, there is simply no one you can compare him to. Some of things he has done in the past are seen as cutting edge even by today’s standards: as well as doing all his own album artwork he also released 100 copies of Blue Navigator on 8-track tape just because it was a format he loved. His last album ‘Back Home With Drifting Woods’ (Drifting Wood being a pseudonym he uses) was released in 2012 and featured early recordings made by by Fred Ramsey who recorded the same sessions that resulted in Michael’s “First Songs” LP on Folkways (1964).
The single will include a previously unreleased solo version of his song, Mabel Green whilst Cass MCombs will be featuring Three Men Sitting On A Hollow Log, a previously unreleased track which you can listen to below:
