Celebrating the release of his latest album ‘Denatured’ we’ve invited Texas native Tony Presley (Real Live Tigers) to join us for his second session on Simple Folk Radio.
“Tony Presley sings beautiful folk poetry in low, undulating tones like a tearful lullaby on a quiet summer night. The purity, sincerity, and unassuming intelligence in everything he does makes your heart ache and your spirit smile.” – Hometown Heroes Music Blog
Real Live Tigers was started in Austin, Texas in 2004 by Tony Presley and has now logged over 800 shows in the US, Canada and Europe. Over 40 musicians have played in the band since its inception, but several tours have just been Presley solo, often touring on Greyhound buses or whatever cheap car he currently owns. Real Live Tigers has released four albums, five EPs and a live compilation.
Denatured is the most recent Real Live Tigers album, and the second to document Presley’s time in Fayetteville, Arkansas. Released in February 2013, it’s the logical counterpart to 2011′s Spirit Animal. It’s sleepy folk-country that deals heavily with disappointment and the repercussions of living away from yourself for too long. Where Spirit Animal was all electric guitar, bass, and drums, Denatured offers nylon-string guitar accompanied by violin, lap-steel, and Paige Hermansen’s strong, clear vocals alongside Presley’s noticeably more relaxed vocal delivery.
Real Live Tigers is currently on a 3-month US tour (April to July 2013) in support of Denatured. Tour dates available at www.reallivetigers.com.
