The Revival Hour consists of Folk Radio UK favourite DM Stith and John-Mark Lapham. They kick off their UK tour this month with their debut album ‘Scorpio Little Devil’ to following on 21st January 2013 on the Antiphon label.
Texas-born Lapham was the sounds-and-samples component of Manchester-based The Earlies, purveyors of a kaleidoscopic brand of folk-tronica explored over two celebrated albums. The Buffalo-born Stith, meanwhile, released an equally revered debut album, ‘Heavy Ghost’, in 2009 on Sufjan Steven’s Asthmatic Kitty label which receive some heavy play on Folk Radio UK following its release.
The duo’s debut introduces an extraordinary fusion of panoramic and timeless sound with a thoroughly modernist and intimate feel: 60’s R&B, soul, doo-wop and pop, fused together by a panoply of electronics and Stith’s heavenly singing and vivid lyrical narratives.
One of the tracks from the album, entitled ‘Hold Back’ can be heard below:
