The Outside Track (read our last review) are part way through their UK tour for their new album Flash Company which features in our current radio playlist. The band are geographically diverse, their five members hailing from Scotland, Ireland, Cape Breton and Vancouver. Despite this seperation they bring together a common ground upon which they each explore and celebrate their musical traditions as one. The results are richly rewarding highlighting their own cultures as well as their individual prowess on fiddle, accordion, harp, guitar, flute, step-dance and vocals.
The band are: Norah Rendell (Canadian Traditional Singer of the Year nominee), Mairi Rankin (Beolach), Ailie Robertson (Live Ireland Winner, BBC Young Trad Finalist), Fiona Black (BBC Fame Academy Winner), and Cillian O’Dalaigh.
We will be bringing you more from them shortly but in the meantime try and catch them live as they have been going down a storm across Europe, Canada and the US. Cath them in the UK & Ireland before they head off for Nova Scotia:
