An Tobar, the Tobermory Arts Centre (Argyll, Scotland), is a participant of ‘New Music 20×12‘, a UK wide programme which consists of twenty outstanding new works, each lasting 12 minutes, which have been commissioned to feature centre stage of the London 2012 Cultural Olympiad. Each commission will be broadcast on BBC Radio 3 and tour the UK.
An Tobar will be working with one of Scotland’s foremost musicians, Aidan O’Rourke (Lau, KAN, Blazin’ Fiddles), who will be composing a new piece called TAT-1, inspired by the first transatlantic telephone cable which ran from Oban, Aidan’s home town, to Newfoundland. For many years this cable carried the “Hotline” between Washington and Moscow.
The project celebrates the advancement in technology that will be used to share today’s modern Olympics with people around the world as well as putting Argyll on the international stage at a time when the world is looking towards the UK.
