Our latest Folk Radio UK session is from Adam Holmes and the Embers, a name you will certainly be hearing a lot more of in the future!
Only in the world of folk music could you imagine the bar staff at one of the liveliest, smokiest and most renowned music pubs in Britain, making a space at the end of the bar so that an eight year old child could get the best view of the acts.
But that’s the experience of Edinburgh singer/songwriter Adam Holmes who now at the age of twenty has been a Celtic Connections Young Traditional Musician finalist, has toured the UK and Europe and in February this year achieved the huge accolade of a Radio 2 Folk Award nomination for Best Newcomer.
Hanging out at the ceremony in London with the likes of Bellowhead, Chris Wood, Danny Thompson and Donovan reinforced the idea that this was the life for him and on returning to Edinburgh he formed his backing band The Embers, recorded an acclaimed debut EP of what has been described as “roots pop with a hint of Scotland” and has played a number of storming sell-out gigs.
With upcoming radio sessions, music press attention, more live gigs and recent interest from four of the music industry’s most prominent movers and shakers, it is safe to say…it’s all happening!
To quote Bruce Findlay (Simple Minds manager and music industry legend) “Edinburgh has a new young star!”
