It has to be said that the tUnE-yArDs new video to Bizness is nothing short of brilliant! A whole bunch of kids from Miraloma Elementary took part in the project. Mimi Cave who directed and Sonia Reiter who choreographed must have the patience of saints…Got to be seen!
Ever wondered what a classroom full of Merrill Garbus lookalikes would be like?
Explaining the concept behind the video, director Mimi notes:
The making of the video was akin to a finger painting assignment for grown-ups. We set out to create something that would stand-up visually to the incredible rhythms and layers in ‘Bizness’. The kids in the video are Bay Area elementary students who dance and perform in their sleep, and young Merrill is played by the very talented Madeline O’Kennon. The stunning adult dancers showcase the modern dance talent in San Francisco. The amount of time and hard work put into this production was a true testament to tUnE-yArDs’ moving compositions. If only we could live inside Merrill’s music all day, everyday.
Now here is a challenge for you and the chance of a bit of fame: tUnE-yArDs are asking people to get creative with facepaint and send in pictures to them to post on the tUnE-yArDs website. This will be great in three ways:
1) Merrill Garbus will see your lovely faces!
2) She’ll donate $1 for every painted face to the disaster relief efforts in Japan.
3) You’ll be entered into a drawing for a boombox that she painted. One that plays cassettes, like the old days!
