For our fifth frukie session we have Lawry Joseph Tilbury, better known as birdengine who has just released his first full length album the crooked mile. birdengine will also be touring in February (details below).
birdengine is the musical project of Lawry Joseph Tilbury. His haunting melodies and dark lyrics take the listener to another realm, a unique place where kings are trapped in glass jars, feral children run amok and dead mermaids litter the sea shore. Live, Tilbury accompanies his truly unique voice with purposefully plucked nylon guitar and record crackle.
birdengine has been privileged to play alongside many incredible artists, including Josephine Foster, Herman Dune, Danielson and Shearwater. He has also played the magnificent Green Man Festival, as well as End Of The Road and Glastonbury. birdengine first released an ep (‘birdengine ep’) in 2005 on Scottish label Benbecula Records, described as the first relevant work in “freak folktronica” it was an experimental affair, he then went on to record the mini-album ‘I fed thee rabbit water’ released on Drift Records in 2007, described by The Independent as “a 25 minute pastoral masterpiece” . His first full length album ‘the crooked mile’ has just been completed and will be released early 2011. Lawry currently resides in Toulouse, South France.
