I don’t know where this week has gone. Friday has crept up on me without me even realising so I had a mad rush to find you some freebie Friday tracks for today. I got there, only just. This weeks artists include Stornoway, The National, Hedi Talbot and The Tallest Man on Earth.

The rest of the band is composed of two pairs of brothers: Aaron and Bryce Dessner and Scott and Bryan Devendorf. Aaron plays guitar, bass and piano, Bryce plays guitar, Scott plays bass and guitar, and Bryan is the drummer.
MP3: Heidi Talbot – Hang Me (click me for direct download)
Taken from her forthcoming album The Last Star.
Ireland has long been a font of great female singers, but Heidi Talbot’s breakthrough solo release, 2008’s In Love + Light, swiftly assured her promotion to the premier league. Its artfully chosen mix of traditional and contemporary material, allied with Heidi’s achingly bittersweet, spun-gold voice, won her a growing audience across three continents.
Now, at last, comes its hotly anticipated follow-up, The Last Star. Produced by her multi-instrumentalist, multi-award-winning partner, John McCusker, and marking her debut foray into songwriting, it also sees Heidi engaging afresh with her traditional roots, meanwhile seeking out the best of modern-day balladry. It’s an album that simultaneously reaffirms all the diverse expressive magic of its predecessor and extends it in arresting new directions.
Now living in Edinburgh, where she’s found a home from home in the thick of Scotland’s vibrant contemporary roots scene, Heidi will soon be on the road again to promote The Last Star, a true gem of an album which is sure to send her own star yet more steeply into the ascendant.
Behind the name The Tallest Man On Earth is Kristian Matsson (born April 30th, 1983 in Dalarna, Sweden). He plays guitar, banjo and piano and has released two full length albums, the first entitled Shallow grave and the second entitled The Wild Hunt, and a self-titled 5-track EP on the Swedish label gravitation.
At many of the Tallest Man on Earth shows this year, Matsson closed his set with a new song titled “Like the Wheel.” It quickly became a fan favorite, with YouTube videos spreading virally, and the sets closing on a high note night after night.
Until next week…have a good one!
