The cello extraordinaires Portland Cello Project, reknowned for their incredible covers, made it into the Daytrotter studios at the weekend to record a session.

They released a new album in July titled Thousand Words. It has to be said, that having listened to the set, they do create a lot of atmosphere covering a range of emotions although Sean Moeller at Daytrotter was certainly more disturbed by their set than I was.

the Portland Cello Project makes me feel angsty and all tense, knotted up, every time I listen to them. They make me feel as if I’m the target of a sniper or being hunted and it has very little to do with their stirring rendition of the “Halo 3″ theme song. It might have a little to do with it, but then all you have to do is listen to the rest of the songs on this debut session and you’ll see what I mean.

There you have it. You can download the session for free here. You can also hear more from them on our Frukie Channel.

A couple more tasters:
MP3: Denmark Off of Thousand words
MP3: Tallymarks Off of The Thao and Justin Power Sessions Kill Rock Stars

and their great new video for Denmark:
