Widely-acclaimed British three-piece the Martin Harley Band return with a brand new album entitled “Drumrolls For Somersaults,” on Villainous Records. True to the band’s idiosyncratic “British Americana” sound, the record is a beautiful blend of melodic songs combining such styles as swinging jazz and more laid- back country-folk alongside striking three-part harmonies.

The album title is inspired by Martin’s life experiences of, to use his own words, “getting twisted in situations, being out of my depth and going slightly crazy with anticipation.” His signature guitar style radiates throughout the album, which also features banjo, electric tremolo guitar and other skilfully played instruments, adding layers of atmosphere to the album.

Recorded at The Loft in Liverpool, in a record time of just five days, it was engineered by Mike Cave (Elvis Costello, the Charlatans, Echo & The Bunnymen) and produced by Nigel Stonier (Thea Gilmore, Fairport Convention, Paul Carrack). Stonier played piano and banjo on a number of tracks throughout and also co-wrote the song “Hand To Hold,” on which backing vocals are provided by Thea Gilmore.

A classy fusion of styles, textures and instruments and the MHB’s strongest collection yet. It’s an album that shines a spotlight on the band’s wealth of experience, their superb musicianship and their gift for captivating an audience with lyrics that are as vivid as their melodies.
