Seth Lakeman was the last person I expected to turn up in our local pub, The Oak, Clevedon. But after a phone call from a mate saying, “Alex, come to the Oake, Seth Lakeman is here, this isn’t a wind-up, honest!” I went, arrived, and there he was sat playing fiddle with Benji Kirkpatrick along with a discreet couple of film makers to record the video for Hearts and Minds. Now I’ve always said to people that the folk world is small, but this small! One minute we’re doing an album airplay exclusive for Hearts and Minds on our Roots channel and the next he’s down the road having a pint!
Anyway, he played along and fitted in like everyone else on a Wednesday night which happens to be a music night at the Oak. He played Hearts and Minds and got accompanied by the wealth of regular (or is that irregular) musicians including drummer, flutes, guitars, accordions…you name it…it was there. A great night! Then off he went to continue his whirlwind tour in Bristol where he had been ealrier in the day busking. He was heading for Mr Wolfe’s!
They were both the nicest couple of blokes you could meet. They just fitted in like any other local. My wife is very very disappointed that she missed him…and now she’s seen the photos she’s sorry she missed Benji as well!
Keep your eyes and ears open as he journeys on! He may turn up in your local or in your town, busking…
For those of you that missed our excluive airing of Heart of Minds we will be playing one track per hour on our Roots channel until the weekend from Thursday – Saturday this week!
