Jenna Reid has been one busy women judging byher latest blog…I’ve noticed she’s been appearing in a lot of projects. This her latest condensed version of her summer:
Hi there folks,
Its a wee while since I posted my news so here goes…Im trying to condense the last 3 months into something that will make sense!
In the early part of Summer the Dochas crew made back into the Studio where we continued work on our next album. It was great to get together again and play music, as well as catch up with everyone! Its also really great to be playing my new (well 1760!) Klotz on the recording – the first time I used it to record was on my most recent solo record, ‘Laughing Girl’ so I’m looking forward to hearing within the mix of Dochas!
Next I was off to the Tiree Feis for the week – I hadn’t been to the Feis in a few years so I was particularly looking forward to it, its such a great week with amazing hospitality and craic – and this year was no different. The weather was brilliant and we were out every night playing tunes, to add to it I had no signal on my mobile all week and its was brilliant!!
Filska met up in Peebles at the East gate Arts Centre, we were on route to Italy to play so it was great to play a concert before we set off.
Italy was a fantastic week, we played 5 concerts and travelled around the north of the Country – a big highlight was playing in the grounds of Castle in Verona – it was a beautiful setting and a lovely night. We even had time to go to the Romeo and Juliet balcony in the city of Verona – very romantic!
On the return trip from Italy, we were up at 6am to fly back and on landing in Prestwick, I had to hot foot it to Edinburgh airport to meet Deaf Shepherd. We were on stage at WOMAD that night. Arriving in Bristol in the pouring rain was not something I had planned for, having come from 33 degrees heat in Italy I had crocs on my feet, a t-shirt and no jacket!!
We had to go straight to the festival site, where is carried on raining and then had to get myself to the stage…..by this time the mud was seeping into my crocs and I was very cold and not amused!
However Dr gig arrived and with the help of borrowing a jacket from Mark we went on stage and had a great night.
Our set went live on Radio 3 – and it was really great fun! Thanks to Womad and everyone there for a great night (despite the weather!!)
Last week I was involved in a commission piece called ‘Yatra’. We were preparing for 2 concerts at the Mela festival in Edinburgh – and it was one of the most enjoyable things I’ve ever done. There were 16 of us in total – a melting pot of Taiko Drummers, Indian dancers, Indian Tabla, Sardinian pipes, Indian vocals + fiddle, pipes and harp!
It was an hour long piece which showcased each musician as well as many ensemble pieces – it was a thrill to be involved in!
Last night I played with the band at the Lyth Arts Centre. Its a lovely place in the centre of Caithness. Kevin Bethany and James completed the four piece for this one. Big thanks to William, Allan and Mirrel and everyone else at Lyth – and especially the cheese and oatcakes afterwards!! Yum!
This week, Im off to down the Brunton Theatre in Musselburgh to play with Filska and then we hook up again for some concerts at the end of the month
Heart of Hawick – 28th August
Acoustic Music Centre, St Brides – 29th
Solfest Festival, Cumbria – 29th
So very much looking forward to that! I hope you enjoyed reading my wee blog!
